Cats and mats ...

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

How does it work that Issie, who refuses to walk over a mat inside (in fact she actually walks around it!!) will make a beeline for it the minute we do the housework and it's lying outide ????? I suspect I even caught her mid-clean!

Spring? maybe .....

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

The mild weather at the beginning of winter has confused my spring flowers. Some have almost finished flowering already! This year for the first ever time I planted some crocus bulbs. I didn't realise how tiny the flowers are and how short a time they last. They are so beautiful but very fragile. No wonder saffron is so expensive.

On the knitting front I've been restocking from the craft market in July, and had only just caught up when the August market rolled around. So guess what I'll be doing for the next couple of weeks! I've been fiddling around with my little yoke cardy and have done a couple of plain cream versions.

Somtimes it's the button that makes all the difference. Originally I had popped a little cream button on this grey version but I think the metal heart one works much better.

And yet another photo of Issie in her favourite position ...

Matching sets ....

Thursday, July 21, 2011

I always try to listen to people's comments when they're standing at my stall at the market ... feedback is always good - although not the "I could make that myself" variety!!! One thing I have realised is people love buying baby clothes in sets so I've spent a week or so knitting beanies to match existing pairs of bootees.

Rediscovered lace pattern ...

I've rediscovered a lovely lacy/fan pattern that I remember using years ago. I had an order for some fingerless long mittens which I think are also called gauntlets - a strange almost military name for something so feminine don't you think? Found a great pattern on Ravelry which I changed somewhat - as you do! - and here's the results.

One happy client and one happy knitter as I then went on to make a couple of baby beanies using the basic lace pattern, plus tried a smaller pair of the mittens which definitely work and I'll knit a few more for the market and to pop on Felt.

Thanks again to Michelle for modelling my creations! She's multi talented - not just a hand model but look at her in this beanie!

Issie managed to extract herself from her mohair blanket last Sunday during that divine sunshine we had and she spent a couple of hours doing this .... Weird cat - sweet and cute, but weird.

Market day .....

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Every single month I write "camera" down on my list of things to take to the market and almost every single month I forget it (mind you that's nowhere near as bad as the day I forgot my knitting needles - 5 hours of no knitting = swearwords) but this month I finally remembered it.

So here's some photo's ...

May 2009 and the first ever Devonport Craft Market - which was of course also my first ever market and as you can see I was knitting adult beanies only!

April 2010 and I've expanded my range to include some baby beanies and bootees.

June 2011 - beanies, bootees, mittens, cardies, ballerina's - what next I wonder ....

Final photo as usual is from the mohair blanket lover ....

Winter, glorious winter ...

Thursday, June 30, 2011

I can't believe where the year is going - half way through it already.

I've been busy knitting (unusual eh!)- not only a couple of orders but also the on- going never ending stocking up for this Sunday's market.

My little vests always sell really well. They're great for babies as you can pop them on over a little skivvy and they get warmth around their chests, plus of course they're easy to slip on and off !!

Sometimes I think it's the buttons that make the sale. I just love these train ones...

Last month at the market I had a couple of potential customers ask if I had a gender neutral vest as the baby hadn't been born yet and of course I didn't. No sale :(

Mind you if I had one of every different size/colour/gender/age group that I get asked for I'd need 3 or 4 tables !!! Anyway I'm knitting a couple of cream ones but then have the button dilemna - do I go for colourful fun ones, or traditional brown/cream ones ... Maybe one of each I think.

Normally Issie van Prehn stars at the end of my blogs and this one is no exception. I'd like to say that she is behaving according to the season but truth to tell she finds a mohair blanket summer or winter.

Knitting madly, madly knitting ....

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Typical me. I've spent a couple of weeks fulfilling orders and now have ended up with only a week and a half to replenish my stock for the market - so I'm busy knitting a couple of these ...

A couple of these ...

And more than a couple of these !!

Issie is contributing nothing of course, other than demanding her tennis ball (favourite toy) be thrown on a regular basis ...
